Kulalu Camp is run by friends and family and that is the ethos of the place; a Board of Directors who are committed not only to the smooth running of the camp and high standards for our guests, but also the wellbeing of the wildlife and the local community, the Watha tribe.

Tina Allen is a co- investor and Chair of the Kulalu Board. She has known and loved Kenya for 28 years, and has been a keen supporter of community projects in the area, including health matters and education opportunities for the “Hidden Children” suffering from polio. Along with Sue Aldersey co- director, they set up the dispensary at nearby Danisa 20 years ago which was the start of Tina’s long term support for the Galana community. Tina is at her happiest entertaining guests along with Bob the bush dog.

Sue Aldersey is a valued member of the team. She is a co- investor and board member of Kulalu Camp and a board member of the adjacent Galana Wildlife Conservancy. She has a huge knowledge of farming in the UK and a passion for wildlife makes her an integral part of the team. Sue first came to Kenya 26 years ago and fell in love with the country and her people.

The Kulalu Camp team are Shadrack, Bush, Benge, Little James plus Baraka, Johnny the chefs. They provide a professional and friendly environment in which guests can totally relax. Children and families are especially welcome. They make every visit a time to remember.

Melinda Rees will take your bookings. She is the friendly voice at the end of the email or phone, and with 30 years of safari and hospitality experience in Kenya and East Africa, with her own company Eco Resorts she is more than well qualified to ensure you have the best experience with us.

Jane Spilsbury looks after our social media, and keeps news from Kulalu fresh and up to date  on Facebook and Instagram

The Kulalu Camp consists of five spacious and luxurious en-suite tents. We have one family twin-tent consisting of a double bed in one room and two single beds in the other room, perfect for families with younger kids who are not comfortable being separated.

We have another double and three twins each with en-suite, flushing toilet and a safari shower. Each tent is thoughtfully positioned to ensure a breath taking view of the Galana River and the Galana Wildlife Conservancy and has its own beautifully appointed veranda for quiet reflections.

Kulalu offers exciting safaris to view the wildlife in the Conservancy and Tsavo East National Park. When it is too hot to go on safari, then it’s time to take a dip in the “Cuddle Puddle” and relax with a drink while watching the wildlife. Wildlife is never far from your view at the bar from the camp balcony.

Safari Tents

Kulalu Camp is a small and personal family camp. We have five private tents facing the Galana River, for front row seats of the wildlife action on the other side.

Simba (lion in Swahili) is closest to the main mess and dining area, with its double bed and ensuite bathroom. Perfect for families, Simba Toto is situated adjacent to Simba, sharing the same bathroom; a twin tent for the kids.

Next door and Tent 2 is Twiga, which means “giraffe” in Swahili. Twiga is a twin bed tent and with a private ensuite bathroom with shower

Tent no 3 is Baraka (Blessings) and you will be truly blessed in this twin tent with the gentle sound of the river soothing your stresses and strains.

Kanga or Guinea Fowl in Swahili, is the end tent number 4, slightly elevated for panoramic views of the wildlife.

Set a little back from the river between Twiga and Baraka, is Mdinguni (Heaven). With the same great vista, tent no 5 is a little more private with its own hammock to lie in and watch the world go by.

For a bit of rustic luxury we have our new “executive” tent no 6, Milele which means “forever”. Tina’s tent is personally designed by her to include some very special personal touches. Milele is set back and secluded, and also has a view of the river

All tents have a veranda, table and chairs, plus a relaxing daybed for private quiet times. Hot showers are available in the evening at 6pm or on request. Every tents has ensuite bathrooms with shower.
Camp is powered by solar energy.
